The Customer Service & Inventory Management Associate is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring books are properly received, displayed, and stocked throughout the store.
Greet customers and create a welcoming shopping experience.
Assist customers in locating books, authors, genres, and special orders.
Make recommendations based on customer interests.
Process sales transactions through the point-of-sale system.
Answer customer questions in person, by phone, and online.
Resolve customer concerns professionally and courteously.
Receive, process, and shelve incoming new and used inventory.
Enter and maintain accurate inventory records in Shopify and other inventory systems.
Price, label, and merchandise books according to store standards.
Monitor inventory levels and identify restocking needs.
Track special orders and customer requests.
Ensure inventory accuracy through routine audits and cycle counts.
Identify and report inventory discrepancies, damaged items, or data errors.
Maintain organized, attractive, and fully stocked shelves.
Create and maintain displays for new releases, staff picks, and featured titles.
Rotate inventory and ensure books are shelved in the proper location.
Assist with seasonal displays, promotions, and events.
Maintain overall store cleanliness and appearance.
Assist with opening and closing procedures.
Handle cash, credit card transactions, and register balancing according to company procedures.
Process trade-ins and used book purchases according to store guidelines.
Assist with shipping, receiving, and customer pickups.
Support bookstore events and community activities as needed.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to learn bookstore inventory systems and point-of-sale software.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to lift and move boxes of books weighing up to 40 pounds.
Passion for books, reading, and community engagement preferred.
